Model for drawing a level map

A plastic model in the shape of a transparent box, the bottom of which has been "raised" in the form of a replica of a volcanic mountain (see photo opposite). Additional elements are: a special overlay cover, a marker and a ruler. By transforming the 3-dimensional image of the mountain into a 2-dimensional spirit level map on their own, students learn the technique of creating these maps and the concept and meaning of spirit levels on maps. Pupils pour the "sea" into the model in batches. (e.g. every 1 cm), they draw the spirit levels on the border between the sea and the mountain and then reproduce the whole map (all spirit levels) on the transparent cover. The best results are achieved by the students' own work in groups, although it is also possible to make a show for the whole class by placing the model on a projector, because the whole model is transparent. Very illustrative!
